McLellan Water Tank

Back in the early 1970’s, my dad was stationed at McClellan Air Force Base, near Sacramento, California.  Today I was working on what used to be the base.  When my dad was working here, we lived in North Highlands, just a few miles away.  After work today, I decided to visit some of the places I where I’d spent my time.

Back then, this was our neighborhood library.  I spent a lot of time here.  I remember they held a pet show where the prizes were books.  I brought my pet mice — didn’t win a book….  If I remember right, the city bus stopped here.  I used to ride the bus into Sacramento and watch movies at an old theater that charged 99 cents admission.

Today I drove by our house, but because it hadn’t changed since I took a picture of it eight years ago, I didn’t feel the need to take a picture this time.

Jimboy's Tacos

I had dinner here this evening.  This is a block away from the house, and used to be a 7-11 store where I’d bought my bubblegum and candy.  I had tacos today, and they weren’t too bad!

I tried something new today — taking videos with my phone.  I recorded my visits to my elementary and junior high schools.  I uploaded the videos to Facebook, but this blog doesn’t allow it (because I’m too cheap to pay for a premium site).

Now I’m back at the hotel, getting ready for bed.  G’night!

Drove out to Walnut Creek, CA for a maintenance job today.  Got to Sacramento at about 9:30pm.  Wondering what I might get for dinner, I saw an In-N-Out just before my turn to the hotel.  I’d always been aware of the rivalry between In-N-Out fans and Whataburger fans.  I’ve always fell in with the Whataburger crowd, but I have to admit the double-double I had tonight was pretty good.  Finally got to the hotel at about 10pm.  Needed to do some paperwork on my laptop, and the dang thing took almost 45 minutes to boot up!  I thought it was broken.

Ever since working in San Diego two years ago, I’ve been on the lookout for good Mexican restaurants serving soups.  In Kansas, I never found any.  In Mesa, so far haven’t found any.  Here in northern California, found two of them today.  Had lunch in Modesto — had posole.  Had dinner in Turlock — had albondigas.  I feel like I’m in heaven, but I’m at the hotel doing laundry.

Stanford Theater

Worked at Stanford University today.  After work, walked around Palo Alto, where the university is located.  Had a couple of pizza slices at Pizza My Heart.  Tasted great!  The picture above is the Stanford Theater, which plays old-timey movies.  The marquee above was advertising a Carole Lombard comedy.

I started and ended the day in Stockton, only 90 miles away — took 2-1/2 hours to get there and 3-1/2 hours to get back — horrible traffic!

wet cat

So when I packed for my trip to Northern California, I checked the weather, and it was supposed to be sunny and warm all week.  So I didn’t pack a jacket.  NOW, there’s rain in the forecast for tomorrow and the temperatures are predicted to be much cooler.  I should have brought a jacket….
